Using Facebook’s New News Feed

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

Facebook’s latest News Feed redesign, announced last week, will make the social network more like the “best personalized newspaper in the world,” according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Among other updates, the News Feed will become more visual, featuring photos more prominently. This will allow businesses to better  visually represent their brands, according to Entrepreneur.com contributor Rick Mulready. Changes will begin rolling out within the next few weeks. Here are some guidelines for using the redesigned newsfeed to benefit your business, from the Entrepreneur.com article “4 Tips for Using Facebook’s Redesigned News Feed.”

  1. Be more visual. It’s long been known that visual content is among the most engaging on social networks, but it will now be easier to take advantage. The News Feed update will make pictures larger and more vibrant, so you’ll benefit from posting lots of photos.
  2. Make sure your ads are in News Feeds. Ads that go in the News Feed will also be more vibrant and engaging, so utilize the advertising options that get your content there, rather than on the side of the page.
  3. Get discovered. Besides the visual aspects, this latest update introduces a new “Following” feed, which displays all content in a chronological order, meaning there’s a better chance of more of your fans actually seeing your posts.
  4. Have an eye-catching cover photo. Whenever someone likes your Page, they’ll see your cover photo in their News Feed. This feature is intended to provide more context about your Page, so pay extra attention to your cover photo, and make sure it’s visually appealing and representative of your brand.
