TODAY’S HEADLINE STORY: September tans can help prevent Indian Summer Sunburns

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Millions of indoor tanning clients know that indoor tans in the spring and summer — in proper combination with sunscreen outdoors — can help to prevent vacation and summertime sunburns.

But what about late summer and early fall sunburns?

2008-09-09-fair-weather-tans-copy.jpg“This is a time of year when those who tan in the spring and summer may be more susceptible to sunburns,” Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy said. “Many tanners stop tanning in August, allowing their tans to fade in September and October. But when football games and early fall activities come around, having less of a base tan makes many people less-protected against sunburns on days when the sunlight is still intense enough to cause burning.”

Professional indoor tanning facilities today teach proper sunburn prevention techniques — including the appropriate usage of sunscreen outdoors. “For late-summer and early-fall outings, tanners still need to consider sunscreen usage on outings, particularly if they’ve allowed their base tans to fade,” Levy said. “Just because the leaves may be changing colors where you live doesn’t mean you can’t sunburn.”
