Natural Health Advocate Responds to NYT ‘Jab’ at Vitamin D, Researcher

Monday, August 27th, 2018

After a New York Times article questioned the importance of “the sunshine vitamin” and the motives of the world’s most prominent vitamin D researcher, the CEO of the Organic and Natural Health Association debated the intentions and basis for the writer’s own conclusions in a response published by the New Hope Network. The Times article, written by Liz Szabo and based on a Kaiser Health News Investigation, accused Dr. Michael Holick of profiting from researching and praising the health benefits of vitamin D.

“What an interesting perspective; using the most common of my criticisms about pharma research and funding to go after a nutrient that costs maybe $100 a year,” Organic and Natural Health Association CEO Karen Howard wrote. “You have to wonder why some folks, and Kaiser, have it in for a hormone that plays such a central role in the human body. It turns out, this is not the first rodeo for Szabo and Kaiser.”
