Letter Attacks BC Teen Ban

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

The announcement that Canada’s third most-populous province would draft rules this fall to prohibit UV tanning in salons for people under age 18 has begun to draw criticism of consumers who are comparing it to other controversial decisions.

“The proposed legislation banning commercial tanning by people under the age of 18 is a classic example of bad law,” British Columbia resident Jack Carradice wrote in a letter in the Chilliwack Times on Monday. Chilliwack is located just west of Vancouver in British Columbia. “This proposal is an insult to our younger citizens. The vast majority of young people are intelligent and, given good information, are quite capable of making sound decisions in their own best interests.”
