Inflamm-aging: Combatting the ‘key driver of aging and disease’

Wednesday, December 28th, 2022

One of the noted benefits of red light therapy is reducing inflammation and pain. But could the impact be more important than just short-term relief and recovery?

We recently posted an article covering the concept of mal-illumination. As we delve deeper into the effects of light therapy, another important topic is inflamm-aging.

“Since chronic inflammation is now being recognized as a major contributor to most chronic diseases from heart disease, depression, and cancer, to Alzheimer’s and chronic fatigue syndrome, this effect of red light therapy on inflammation is a very big deal. Many aging scientists now speak of ‘inflamm-aging’ – the concept that genes and pathways that control inflammation may very well be the key drivers of aging and disease,” writes best-selling author Ari Whitten in his book, The Ultimate Guide To Red Light Therapy: How to Use Red and Near-Infrared Light Therapy for Anti-Aging.

Inflamm-aging is just one of many potential mechanisms by which sun exposure or light therapy can help combat mal-illumination and promote better overall health. As Whitten writes:

“The key point is this: Red/NIR light are not some weird technology that benefits us for some random reason. These wavelengths of light come from the sun, and it turns out that our body has evolved over millions of years to be capable of utilizing red and near-infrared light from the sun to help power up our cells—literally enhancing the function of our mitochondria, our cellular energy generators—among many other beneficial effects.”

Smart Sun Therapy utilizes a combination of targeted light wavelengths, found naturally in sunlight, that have been clinically proven to stimulate positive biological processes supporting the body’s self-healing mechanisms including reducing inflammation and pain.
