HEADLINE STORY: Nature had it right, vitamin D science proves

Friday, October 30th, 2009

OCT. 30, 2009 — “Humans make thousands of units of vitamin D within minutes of whole body exposure to sunlight. From what we know of nature, it is unlikely such a system evolved by chance.” — Dr. John Cannell, Executive Director, Vitamin D Council.

2009-10-30-the-natural-way-to-d-copy.jpgCannell’s Vitamin D Council advocates that people receive up to 5,000 international units of vitamin D daily in order to maintain vitamin D blood levels of 50 ng/ml. There exists no source in nature other than regular sun exposure to manufacture those vitamin D levels.

You’d have to drink 50 glasses of fortefied whole milk or eat 5-8 servings of fresh-from-the-stream salmon to achieve those vitamin D levels. But whole body sun exposure produces more than 10,000 international units of vitamin D in one non-burning tanning session.

“Regular UV exposure is natural and intended,” Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy said. “Vitamin D reserach proves it beyond contestation.”
