HEADLINE STORY: 5 of 6 in the tanning market are optimistic for 2010

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

JULY 21, 2009 — Optimism continues to rule in the professional tanning market, as five out of every six indoor tanning business owners say they feel good about the outlook of the tanning business in 2010, according to a SmartTan.com survey conducted in July.

2009-07-21-bright-side-copy.jpgAccording to the survey, 83 percent say they are optimistic about the outlook for the industry’s economy in 2010. Just 17 percent characterize their feelings as pessimistic.

“The tanning community is a unique industry,” Smart Tan Vice President Joseph Levy said. “Optimism prevails. The number of people who are bullish about the economy for next season exceeds the number who have told us this year that they are happy about this season. That speaks a lot about the kind of positive people we have in this business right now.”

Smart Tan surveys this year give the aggregate impression that about one-third of the market is up, about one-third is down, and the remaining third is holding steady — results that exceed the rest of the North American economy. “For 83 percent of the market to be optimistic going into next year is an amazing figure,” Levy said. “We feel the market is in excellent shape for when the rest of the economy catches up. The business owners are doing the right things to make the most of the current conditions.”

Smart Tan is gearing up to help tanning business owners drive indoor tanning’s next boom — a concept that is central to the programming of Smart Tan’s 14th Annual Convention and Trade Show, Oct. 9-11 in Downtown Nashville. Click here to learn more about the convention.
