Checklist for a Successful 2nd Half of 2013

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

Congratulations, we’re past the halfway point of 2013! Now is as good a time as any to take stock off your situation, and decide what areas you need to focus on to improve your business before we hit 2014. Start by considering the following areas of improvement, from the Inc.com article “7 Ways to Make the Rest of 2013 Amazing”:

  1. Solve at Least One Communication Issue. Nothing impedes progress like the lack of effective communication. Are your meetings ineffective? Could you dole out criticism in a better way? Does everyone in the organization feel comfortable offering feedback? Find the area that’s holding you back most and fix it!
  2. Eliminate at Least One Useless Practice or Policy. Sit down with colleagues, go through your daily routines, and try to make them more efficient. There are most likely several activities or policies that can be adjusted or even eliminated, allowing you to be more productive in 2014.
  3. Remove at Least One Useless Item From Your Budget. Comb through your budget line by line and you’ll surely find one or two areas where you can trim the fat.
  4. Commit to at Least One New Experiment. If you complete the previous two steps, you should have some extra resources to work with in 2014. Instead of sitting on them, leverage them to add new facets to your business.
  5. Make at Least One New Major Connection. Whether it’s adding a valuable employee, developing a new business partnership, or building relationships with new distributors, it never hurts to expand your network.
  6. Add at Least One New Competency. On a personal level, try to add a new business skill to your repertoire. Then see if you can get relevant employees to do the same.
  7. Inspire at Least One Colleague. Another great way to make some personal progress is by offering support to others. Inspiring someone else will make you feel good and will often help you find inspiration yourself. And, of course, anything that makes your colleague or employee better make you better as well.
