We Are Sunshine

The Future of UV

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015

It’s been a big year in UV science. The vitamin D research community this year came out strongly to clarify their position: Sunlight exposure to the skin is the main source of vitamin D, and getting the right amount of UV is key in getting the vitamin D you need.

There’s a lot to discuss. Most importantly, how does it all relate to what you’re doing in your indoor tanning business?

That’s why a the UV track, part of the educational conference at Smart Tan Nashville, Nov. 13-15 2015, will feature one of the most knowledgable and influential individuals on the subject in the world, Dr. Michael Holick, MD, PhD. With more than 740 peer-reviewed papers to his credit, Holick is considered by many to be the world’s leading UV/vitamin D researcher.

Holick’s presentation, “An Enlightening Perspective on the Future of UV,” is the most energetic talk about UV science you’ll ever attend and the one you need to see this year. He believes more than ever that sensible sun exposure has a strong future. So, how can we balance current thinking on the negative effects of sun exposure with new research on its benefits? Why is sunlight is crucial for the production of vitamin D and several other metabolites? What is the future of UV science and how can professional sunbed centers fit in?

The other UV session, “UV Science and Your Salon,” ties all of what you learn from Holick directly back to your business. There are often questions about what UV science means for salons. Does it affect the cosmetic services that you offer? How do you respond when customers ask about an article they read? Can you promote positive research to your customers? What can and can’t you say about UV light as a salon that sells UV tanning sessions? Join Smart Tan’s Matt Russell and Joe Levy, along with Fabutan CEO Mat Rockey, for a candid discussion on these topics and more as they dig into the ever-changing scientific and political landscape of UV light.

As well as the UV track, the industry’s only full educational conference will feature tracks dedicated to marketing and business operation and a critical session dedicated to the legal battles in which the industry is currently embroiled.
