ASA Applauds Congressional Repeal of ‘Tan Tax’

Thursday, January 7th, 2016

American Suntanning Association, Jan. 7, 2016 — The American Suntanning Association today issued the following press statement, thanking both houses of Congress for including full repeal of the 10% federal excise tax on indoor tanning in legislation now on the President’s desk.

In the past three years, ASA’s federal lobbying team has dedicated thousands of hours helping Congressional leaders gain support for the repeal of the controversial tax — slipped into the 2009 Affordable Care Act as a last-minute replacement for a 5 percent tax on elective cosmetic surgery — the so-called “Bo-Tax” on botox injections and other procedures. To date, nearly 80 members of Congress from both the Democratic and Republican Party have signed-on as cosponsors of U.S. HR2698 — the stand-alone bill to repeal the tax. ASA has held more than 500 meetings on the Hill on this topic alone.

Here is ASA’s press release.
