In one of the most memorable moments in Smart Tan convention history, famous “Tan Man” George Hamilton slammed the purveyors of Sun Phobia, decrying “It’s a madness”since the sun is responsible for all life on the planet.

Hamilton — the Hollywood icon who encourages the public to consider moderate, non-burning sun exposure as part of a natural lifestyle — hosted “The TAN-night Show” at Smart Tan Downtown in 2002, after first appearing at Smart Tan’s 2000 convention. As the host of a talk-show format program, Hamilton interviewed “The Sun” (portrayed by Smart Tan’s Joseph Levy) and Vitamin D scientist Dr. Michael Holick, who has always promoted non-burning UV exposure as the most-natural source of the sunshine vitamin.

Hamilton — whose legend as a sun-lover is equal to his Hollywood status — used to have sunbathing time written into his movie contracts as a must.
