Q: How does the current economy present an opportunity for salon owners?

A: We are seeing a consolidation of the market, and that’s part of a challenged economy as a whole. I think the American consumer still lacks real confidence in the economy no matter how much we are told things are getting better. But that trend presents opportunities for salon owners: the opportunity of acquisition. You don’t have to be the biggest chain in the industry to benefit. Some of the salons for sale have things worth value whether it’s equipment, a database, a location or the entire operation. This consolidation clarifies the differences between you and your competitors, which comes with opportunities and demands. It requires everybody to up their game and rewards people who continue to reinvest in their business.
